Ward Off The Bugs - The Google Way

Google is now determined to trap each and every available existing in the contemporary virtual space. In a recent announcement, Google has unveiled a new codelab entitled “Web Application Exploits and Defenses” which provides a glimpse into the various security threats and vulnerabilities which the websites may experience.

A codelab is a programming tutorial, developed and distributed by Google to create awareness about the most updated programming and technical know-hows. This particular codelab has been developed to showcase the possible threats and its relevant defenses in the web application structure. Useful for all the programmers and developers, this codelab has been developed with the spirit of "it takes a hacker to catch a hacker”. Google Code University and Google Labs have jointly contributed for this beneficial codelab.

Jarlsberg which is a full featured small micro blogging application, has been specially developed by Google for this codelab. This experimental web application has a lot of bugs and deficiencies like cross-site scripting (XSS), cross-site request forgery (XSRF) and cross-site script inclusion (XSSI), as well as client-state manipulation, path traversal and AJAX and configuration vulnerabilities. The programmers are provided with step by step tutorials to explore such threats and then find the solutions, so that the actual web applications being developed are bug-free.
