Rich Snippets Now Available Globally

The Rich Snippet feature, which was introduced by Google some times back, is now global. This latest announcement was conveyed by Google executives through their official blog recently. Rich snippet feature is a unique concept, wherein a brief description about the website and a snapshot of the web-page is displayed along with the search results in Google. This snippet assists the users of Google search engine to identify the content, and helps them to make the choice of visiting the website.

Thus, if the user searches for Thai Food Recipe in Google, he will encounter several web-sites in the search results, with few of them featuring the rich snippet format. Such rich snippet enabled website will showcase information like cooking time, ratings for that recipe and a photograph of the recipe. Prior to the globalization of this concept, the rich snippet format was only available in English language. However, with this feature going global, users of different languages can enjoy and use this feature in Google.

As of now, Google has started the rich snippet format in the following languages: Chinese, traditional Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish. Google has suggested that the users can easily change the language by scrolling down the page to the Help section, and choose the language they want to view.

At present, Google is supporting this feature for categories like People search, Events, Videos, Reviews and Recipes. Steps are underway to expand this list and include as many categories as possible. Lastly, Google has informed its users and webmasters that this feature is being implemented gradually, and integration of other categories and languages will take some time to be available. It is advisable that webmasters should regularly check Google's news and updates to stay updated regarding more news in this section.
