Relevance Of Keyword Meta Tags In SEO
Any webmaster will agree to the fact that meta-tags are one of the major pillars of on-page SEO process. If we wish that any particular website or webpage be ranked higher in Google SERPs, then the meta-tags should properly optimized with relevant information and appropriate iterations of keywords.
However, there is some doubt regarding the usage of keyword meta-tags while creating meta-tags for a website.
Clearing the speculation, Matt Cutts, the leading Googler recently said that the keyword tag isn’t relevant to Google search algorithm any more. Thus, there is no need to optimize this tag, as far as Google is concerned. Other search engines like Bing and Yahoo, however, do consider the keyword meta-tag as one of the factors of optimal SEO.
Meta-tags are mainly composed of three sections: Title, Description and Keyword. Besides the keyword tag, Google pays a lot of attention to the other tags viz., Title and Description.
Title is the clutter of text which is visible on top of any webpage in the title part. It basically describes the purpose of the page by describing the content/image/video which is presented below.
Description is the text which is showcased as snippet across the search results. It informs the search engine visitor about the content present in the website.
Google gives high importance to these two tags, compared to the keyword meta-tag.
